1. The Breach of Privacy or the Power of Connection: What’s the Real Cost of Social Media? (19.04, Laxman)
Should governments have the right to regulate what social media platforms do with user data?
Any beautiful:
So, I don't know where my data has gone over the years. I'm just being honest. So, I love meeting people from different countries. So for me personally, it outweighs any concerns I may have about my data, if that makes sense. I know that sounds naive, but I think for myself, my experience has always been positive.
So, does the power of global connection outweigh the individual right to digital privacy?
marine_0204:
Well, I think that the power of global connection outweighs the individual's right to digital privacy because internet is a big part of our lives nowadays and this is the main source of communication. It helps us in our studies, work, and communication with other people. So, I think it's hard to avoid sharing our privacy, but of course, we should be very cautious and pay attention to places and people we are sharing our data with.
Are people genuinely more empowered through social media or they are just being manipulated by the companies?
Jo O'khafor:
Unfortunately, it is not the case of everybody. Today we can we can see that uh social media are influencing the behavior of many people, especially the young people. You can see through trends on TikTok that can be sometimes very dangerous that can even lead to death, but we are seeing this every day, but unfortunately, everybody is not aware of the power of social media to manipulate or to influence their behaviors. So it is it still happen, unfortunately, but at a personal level, of course, you can you can choose to be more intelligent or more conscious about what you you can do which information that you are getting because the role of those platform is to put informations just in front of us every day and which is our our responsibility to analyze before we take some decision. But at a global level, we can say that unfortunately the answer is that those platforms are inframing people's behavior and not in the good way.
Are people uh being getting more empowered through social media, or they they are getting manipulated?
Leon:
So, I would say that to most people, most people have a very passive attitude. They are not actively searching for different views or groups. They are just scrolling indefinitely through social media. So, I think to most people, like probably more than 90% of people, it's very damaging to their life because it's mostly usually not saying anything useful at all, just short videos. It's not everybody who are like us here, you know, doing something useful on the internet. So, I also think that it's not possible not to be manipulated in any form because there is always the content shape. Like even if you say like, oh, I have a strong mind, but the social media will only show to you the things that they know you pay more attention. I know that they even even if you don't press the like button, they know if you pass your eyes too fast through something or if you paid more attention to to something else and they will show you more of that something else. So, I think overall, it's good that we have access to social media, but not only not everybody can benefit from from it.
So, should Reels and short form content be banned or limited due to their addictive nature?
Any beautiful:
Absolutely not be banned or limited due to their addictive nature. Humans can determine their own what they can handle, what they can't handle. I cannot post a news real or something from the newspaper to Facebook because our government doesn't want us to share news information. So, I can't do that on Facebook. I don't think the government, there should be no regulation with that.
What do you think, what would the world look like uh without social media?
marine_0204:
I think the world would be just different. It wouldn't be worse or better. I actually agree with Terry and Taha. Social media allows us to learn about different cultures and we don't have to travel around the world to learn about different customs and practice our speaking skills. But on the other hand, after the invention of computers and mobile phones, we don't see our friends and relatives often, people are spending more time online than with their family members. So it has its own pros and cons, so I think it would be just a different world.
2. Discussion about how intelligent robots are changing the way we work. (26.04, Taha)
These robots are made to help people, not to take their jobs, to make life easier.
First, I will talk about hosting robots. What is a hosting robot? Hosting robot is a robot that can be use for guiding, serving, crowd management, delivery, and greeting, and interacting. He is used as a tour guide. He can speak any language with anyone, and he has speakers, so he can define the voice where it comes from. So, he has wheels, not legs. He has a screen. This screen, we can use it for a lot of scenarios. He can work as a security and a very good receptionist. If someone enters company, he will go forward to him and say hello.
Another one is used in exhibitions, so he has two screens, the small screen for interacting, and screen for address shipment.
